Signs of change; some surprises

Food for Thought: A News Cafe turns 1 week old tomorrow. We are so proud of her. And we’re thrilled you’re here to help her bloom and grow.

One tiny wrinkle, but it’s temporary.

Ever since we switched to the new site last week, many of you subscribers have told us you’re not receiving your notifications. (What? You’re not a subscriber? It’s free forever. Subscribers get emails that keep them in the loop about new content. Subscribers’ names are entered in drawings when we have prizes.)

You subscribers want your notifications. You don’t want to miss a thing.

We hear you. We’re on it.  We apologize for the inconvenience, but we’re glad you cared enough to speak up and let us know.

For now, no adjustment of your settings is necessary because our techie doctor, Jim Gore, is doing his best to solve this puzzle. Until we get the nofications working properly, check back often so you don’t miss the fun and excitement.

In the meantime, indulge me while I show off some photos taken Wednesday of the message board at the Jindra’s 76 Station on Cypress Avenue and Bechelli Lane in Redding.  (It will appear there again Friday.)

While I arranged for the message that introduced Kelly Brewer, Jim Dyar, Thom Gabrukiewicz and Phil Fountain on donigreenberg.com, the reverse side of the message board was a total surprise: “Humpty Dumpty was pushed” - with the station’s website,

Gosh, that’s too funny, because that’s one of my favorite bumper stickers of all time. Love it.

I also love that Jindra’s station. It’s a local, family-owned, full-service gas station that makes its message board available to the community for a small fee ($3).

Places like Jindra’s make our north state so wonderfully unique. People like us appreciate them.

I took a picture of the sign when I was stopped in the left hand turn lane. I hope it isn’t illegal to photograph while driving - LOL!

I’ll bet Humpty popped right back up again when no one was looking.

If you’re using Firefox you can hold down the “Ctrl” key and press the “+” key to increase the text size for any page. Or if you’re using IE you can hold down the “Ctrl” key while using the mouse scroll wheel to increase/decrease the size of the text on any page.

Try it out, hope it helps.

Doni, you know that you and all the little Chamberlains are like daughters to me and you do know this community inside, out.

The Jindra’s have one class act of a service station and have for years pumped your gas, cleaned the windshield, checked your oil and offered you coffee even on 8/8/08. What a superb crew and so out of the ordinary. They go out of their way to give their customers very good service.

More local merchants should emulate the service of Jindra’s 76 on Cypress to, as they do, bring them back in droves.

My wife used to work for Wallner Plumbing just down the street at that time and they insisted that she needed a cup of coffee wheather she wanted one or not.

    What a place!

The notification issue is no big thing. I come here at first boot anyway.

Joe D…..so cool, thanks for the tip on increasing the size of the page. Of course now we all know that doing the opposite hold ctrl button and - (minus button) will decrease the size. I am going to remember your tip forever!!
