Why is Andy Green gone?

Andy Green, the Redding Convention Center manager, is out of the office.

Indefinitely.

Where is he? Why did he leave? Will he return, and if so, when?

Reached on his cell phone, Green confirmed he was on leave from his job.

Green said he would be gone ”a while” but declined to say if or when he’d return. Green would not elaborate about the nature of his absence from the position he’s had for five years, except to say the reason was of a personal nature and he was not at liberty to discuss it.

He said Convention Center business was being taken care of by other staffers.

John Johnson, operations manager for the Convention Center, is taking Green’s calls in his absence. Johnson would not discuss Green’s leave, but said the Convention Center manager last worked in his office about three weeks ago.

Green, an outdoors enthusiast and avid fly fisherman, came to Redding from Nashville, Tenn., where he was the business development director for the Gaylord Entertainment Center.

Green was 50 when he started work at the Convention Center in January of 2003. He replaced the former director, Joseph Kerr, who’d lasted just six months before taking a similar job in Reno.

On a personal note, in my former newspaper position, I interviewed Green many times over the years and found him to be professional and approachable. He was an enthusiastic promotor of the north state and its events.

“There are thousands of artists available,” he said early in his Convention Center career.

“We can bring anyone to Redding who will sell tickets.”

You are a super-scooper! I’ll bet the folks at the RS are checking your website first for all the news.
From what little I know, it seemed that Andy did a great job at the RCC. The level of talented performers certainly improved since he took over.
    I hope he’s okay…

Maybe Andy took a job with the Chico newspaper. Heh.

I served on a bank advisory board with Andy and always found him to be a intouch and caring guy about Redding.

Hmmm…I never realized that “John” was a girls name.

    I keed, I keed.

John, it’s possible that in your case, Andy was on his best behavior. As I mentioned, he is charming. Perhaps he treated your board sessions as an “interview”; putting his best foot forward because those in attendance could do something for him and/or couldn’t do anything to him. In my experience, woe be unto anyone that didn’t give in to Andy’s demands or challanged his authority. By the way, he was very big on reminding you how important he was.
